The art that surrounds us

August 25, 2013

Forgot to mention that I had been in the same room with some paintings by Van Gogh, Pissaro, Degas, Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, Delacroix—and found myself most moved by and interested in work by one William Hollingsworth as well as some pointillist whose name I cannot recall right now. My tastes tend toward nature, and while I appreciate how folks can represent nature and emotion on a canvas…no high brow here. And now, in the past week, have leafed through a Maxfield Parrish book, and had two, repeat, two Maxfield Parrish sunsets to enjoy. Light and color, shade and saturation, transient glow and glory.

So, it’s not all serious library work here, and thankfully, the folks I work with are easing me into the rushing stream—and every day they check to make sure I have my life jacket. Am glad to be here, and am trying to find how I fit the machine best. We shall see. May we all see, mliswilltravel.
